This is an article that gives some insight on why e-books are gaining popularity and why we should be reading more e-publications.

Questia Library Plus iPhone app. Credit: Questia We'll spare you the obvious "there's an app for that" joke. But you can get a library's worth of books on your phone. Questia, an online research portal for students, announced its application today for reading books, articles and periodicals on an iPhone or iPod Touch. The app costs 99 cents for 5,000 public-domain books and a week of unlimited access. After that, users can buy a two-week subscription for $9.99. There are so many things wrong with this we don't know where to start. For one, students don't like to buy things....

Last week, California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger proposed replacing school textbooks with e-books in order to help plug a state budget gap. Now, textbook giant Pearson has responded with digital content to supplement California's programs in biology, chemistry, algebra 2, and geometry.

It is no secret to anyone at this point that e-books are here, they are real and, as reported this week, they are adding up to a sizable chunk (often 20% or more) of publishers' sales.

FOR decades, even after it was renamed and relocated from its original home at Radcliffe, the Columbia Publishing Course seemed unchanging, a genteel summer tradition in the book business, a white-glove six-week course in which ambitious college graduates were educated in the time-honored basics of book editing, sales, cover design and publicity. Not this summer.

I've highlighted what I think is one of the best arguments I've seen for e-book pricing.

Apple got some good news Tuesday afternoon, as Judge Denise Cote significantly lightened the proposed injunctive relief the company will face after being found liable in its e-book price fixing trial.

Amazon is planning to bring a Kindle reader to the Mac platform, according to a report from Fast Company. The question came  up after Microsoft announced during the Windows 7 launch this week that Amazon would release a Kindle reader for that OS, and an Amazon spokesperson confirmed for the magazine that Kindle was coming to the Mac, too.
